This is Echoes' first-ever Easter and surprise! we're doing things a little differently. There are two events happening, and anyone is free to participate in either or both.
From 1 - 2pm we'll be walking, starting in downtown Bellingham and moving on to Maritime Heritage Park. Pausing along the way for "narrative interruptions," we'll re-live the story of Jesus' last days, death, and game-changing resurrection, ending alongside the waters of Whatcom Creek where we remember our own immersion into this story through faith, doubt, baptism, struggle, fear, and hope. The walk will be approximately 1/2 mile, and the terrain includes sidewalks, some stairs, and trail. This will be a unique Easter experience!
From 2:15 - 4pm we'll be practicing resurrection by engaging in a service project at Maritime Heritage Park. Bellingham Parks & Rec has a large pile of mulch that needs to be moved downhill and placed around trees in the park. As Jesus brought radical new life to all through the event of Easter, we hope to bring glimmers of new life to this important downtown park. Parks & Rec are providing the tools and gloves, all you need to bring are sturdy shoes and clothes that can get a bit dirty.
Weather is, as always, unknown. Prepare for rain, and hope for sun. (Since it IS April, it wouldn't hurt to bring an umbrella and/or rain gear.) If you have any questions at all, please contact us through this website, or email info@echoesbellingham.org
Meet in front of Bellingham City Hall at 1pm for the walk!
Meet at the round salmon hatching enclosures at the Maritime Heritage Park for the service project (parking is available at the end of C Street)!
Jesus is risen! Let us rise, too.
