From ancient times it has been widely acknowledged that there are Two Books from which we can know God: Scripture and Nature. Echoes is newly affiliated with The Wild Church Network, and we’ll be practicing at least one outdoor church gathering each month.
This month’s Wild Church will coincide with Ash Wednesday, a meaningful, ritual-heavy time of reflection. The theme for Echoes in March is reLEASE, which we’ll focus upon for this gathering. We will gather around a fire, participate in an act of reLEASING, and have an imposition of ashes to mark this season of rePENTENCE.
Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather. Bring a short chair, a blanket, and your journal. Bring, also, your open heart to experience God in nature, as a community.
Location: Marine Park in Fairhaven, near the Greyhound and ferry terminal (link to location map)
After our Ash Wednesday service, we will head to Stones Throw Brewery (Address: 1009 Larrabee Ave, Bellingham, WA 98225) for Pub Church around 7pm!
All are welcome for conversation and community around the fire as we discuss mortality and what it means to RElease those things which are keeping us from authenticity with self, God and others. Can’t make it to the service beforehand, we will have ashes for you to receive at the brewery!
