WATCH PARTY LINK FOR RIGHT NOW

This Monday we’ll be watching one episode of the new Netflix docuseries, Immigration Nation. It debuts on Aug 3rd so it’ll be new for everyone. Since none of us have seen the series, we also haven’t vetted it. There has been substantial coverage regarding political pushback to have some scenes deleted, or have the series air after the election, so it’s definitely controversial. We won’t be watching for the purpose of slamming on ICE officers, but to get a better look at how restrictive immigration policies are being carried out.

Following the watch party we’ll shift over to Zoom for a discussion on the episode. The link for Zoom will be given during the Watch Party.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE WATCH PARTY:

NOTE: you need a netflix account. (there is a free trial if you'd like to start with that to check out netflix and not commit to monthly charges)

• For netflix watch parties you need to use CHROME as the browser - it won't work on any other browser (i.e. Firefox, Safari, etc.)

• You can only use a DESKTOP or LAPTOP for a netflix watch party (no smartphones or tablets)

• You have to INSTALL the netflix party Chrome extension; once you do this you will see a gray "NP" next to the address bar in the Chrome browser.

• Because you can't schedule a netflix party in advance, one person has to get it going and then send out the link. We will get the movie started this Monday at 6:25ish, and then post the link to this event page, and the Echoes facebook page. Keep an eye out for it.

• Make sure you are on Chrome and signed into Netflix

• Click on the URL link that I will post on this page, which will direct you to Netflix.

• This is IMPORTANT: once you're at the link that I've sent out, you have to CLICK ON THE LITTLE "NP" BUTTON that is next to the address bar. (The "NP" should appear red and not gray.)

• After all of this , we should be watching at the same time, and we'll be able to use a chat feature to make comments to each other.
