Indigenous People’s Day is celebrated in Bellingham on October 11th. We honor this celebration by joining in with our Native siblings in solidarity with the artistic work of Children of the Setting Sun (Lummi). Indigenous Peoples' Day is a holiday that celebrates and honors Native American peoples and commemorates their histories and cultures. It is celebrated across the United States on the second Monday in October as an alternative to Columbus Day. In Bellingham, Coast Salish Day, was made an official holiday in 2015.
We are privileged to share this land with the Coast Salish People and every time we gather we honor their true partnership with the earth through a Land Acknowledgement. On this yearly gathering we would typically have a potluck with sharing of food & story, and spend time in conversation, but with COVID-19 still putting our health & safety at risk, we are grateful to join in online.
