Join Echoes for a film screening of the documentary Pray Away and a discussion following. This film covers the challenging topic of conversion therapy that has been harmful to the LGBTQIA community, so we want to ensure folks know they are not alone in processing the feelings that this film can bring up.
Pray Away follows former leaders of the "pray the gay away" movement as they contend with the aftermath unleashed by their actions, while a survivor seeks healing and acceptance from more than a decade of trauma.
We strive to provide a safe facilitated space to debrief the film and acknowledge the harm that certain teachings of Christianity have caused when telling folks they can change their God given beings. We believe that you are loved as you are, exactly as God made you. The world needs you. We are glad you are here especially because of who you are and who you love.
INSTRUCTIONS (read carefully!)
We’ll gather at the TELEPARTY LINK at 6:15pm and start the film as quickly as we can.
After the movie we'll switch over to Zoom for the discussion.
We took a poll at Wild Church and it appears that most everyone has Netflix, which is why we're choosing to use Teleparty to watch together. YOU NEED TO HAVE A NETFLIX ACCOUNT (or a free trial!) to watch with Teleparty.
TO JOIN TELEPARTY:
1. Click on the Teleparty link below and Teleparty will prompt you to download an extension to Chrome (the only browser that Teleparty will work with).
2. Once that happens, CLICK ON THE RED TP ICON IN YOUR EXTENSIONS and Netflix will open and we'll all be together to watch in real time. It's enjoyable to comment with one another during the movie.
