Service Church Plant Maintenance and Invasive removal – Rutsatz Salmon
Friday, September 3rd (9am – 3pm, Onsite)

Rutsatz Salmon is a beautiful 71-acre fish and wildlife habitat reserve nestled between Rutsatz Road and the North Fork Nooksack River just past Deming. The property hosts an 11-acre field lined with young native trees that need their blue tubes removed and to be freed from encroaching blackberry. There is additionally a newly discovered patch of yellow archangel along the river, about a mile hike in and then back, that needs to be hand-pulled, bagged, and taken offsite before it spreads further and threatens diversity. Don’t forget to RSVP and bring your own gloves!

Tools Suggested: Kneeling pad for archangel, hand pruners, loppers, and/or shovel for digging blackberry.

Directions: Drive east on Mt. Baker Highway past Deming. Turn right (south) on SR 9 towards Sedro Woolley for ½ mile. Cross the bridge over the Nooksack River and turn left on Rutsatz Road. Travel about ¾ mile and look for the purple Whatcom Land Trust signs on the left!

Please help us prepare and RSVP at least 48 hours in advance (unless otherwise noted) if you plan to attend an upcoming Field Friday. RSVP to jennifer@whatcomlandtrust.org.
