The Bible is a big deal in the Christian faith.
A. Big. Deal.
And it's so old! How can it possibly have authority today, especially when our culture is so different from the ancient cultures that wrote them? Some people wield the Bible like a weapon, citing the authority of Scripture for their behavior - "take that, you heathen, the Bible says you're wrong!" - and that kind of approach can't really be okay, can it?
This learning event is hosted by Faith Bellingham Lutheran Church. It will be led by Dr. Gerald Hobbs, who is emeritus professor of Church history and music at Vancouver School of Theology, where he taught for more than thirty years. Originally trained as an Old Testament scholar, he is a specialist in the history of Protestant Reformation, and has widely published in the story of the interpretation of the Bible.
Dr. Hobbs will be at Faith for the weekend, and folks from Echoes will be joining for this Saturday lecture. Cost is $25, and lunch is provided. Click here for more information and call Faith Lutheran (360.733.3970) to register. If you sign up, let us know!
