This will be Bellingham's 3rd annual MLK Poverty Action March. From the Whatcom Volunteer website: "In 1968, only months before he was assassinated, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference planned a Poor People’s March on Washington D.C. to bring attention to economic and social disparities for Americans living in poverty. In this spirit, local organizations, churches and schools work together towards a simple, but practical goal: collect essential needs for our local providers whose supplies are depleted by the holiday season."
A breakfast will be served at 10am at Bellingham High School, and the march begins at 11am. To donate to the Essential Needs Drive, bring your new, non-perishable item during business hours at any of the following drop off sites after January 1, 2014:
Whatcom Volunteer Center, 301 W. Holly M-6.
Whatcom Peace & Justice Center, 1220 Bay St.
Join Echoes as we march to fuel action toward reducing poverty in Whatcom County. We'll meet at the breakfast, just look for the Echoes sign at one of the tables!
