Have you ever wanted to go backpacking, but just haven’t gotten around to it? There are all sorts of places to explore in our region, but how to start? This weekend will offer the hands-on guidance you need to explore on your own! By the end of this awesome experience you will know how to select a trail and campsite, choose and use the appropriate gear, and understand water safety and food requirements. Most important, you will gain the confidence to continue backpacking all summer long. 

Our instructor is Rev. Charis Weathers, a gear expert who was featured in over 300 product and instruction videos on REI.com. She has been backpacking for more than thirty years, locally and internationally, and is known for her knowledgeable, patient, and friendly style. 

In addition to the experiential weekend, there will be a group meeting beforehand (date, time, and location to be determined by who is going and their schedules) to discuss gear and logistics, and get acquainted. Bonus! a pre-trip one-on-one gear consult with Charis to go over the specifics of what you will be carrying in your pack.

Location is the beautiful Baker Lake with views of Mt Baker, and only a two mile mostly flat hike to get to our lakeside camping area.

An optional time of spiritual reflection is included for Saturday night of the trip.

Limited to eight people so register soon. The trail is suitable for true beginners, with limited distance and elevation gain. Dire rain will postpone the trip. All proceeds will benefit Echoes. A liability form will need to be signed before the trip.
